SICK rics aquarius! What kind of lights do you use?
Are you going to have a mixed reef like sps, lps, and softies? If so, you may want to have carbon in there to get rid of the toxins that the corals will release to battle each other.
Wouldn't hurt to even use carbon and run it for a day or two every two to three weeks.
No matter what you do, you won't be able to mimic exactly the natural conditions found on the reef in your tank (unless of course you're some relative of god). One of the major limitations facing us is space. Running carbon will help keep to reduce the load on your filters. This will help you over all... But of course try it and see... If your tank is large enough and sparsely populated enough it could work very well...
i do a 5 gal w/c a week on a 72 bow, mix. just want to get some advice about the use of carbon. some people say is good and some say it's no needed. thanks
No i dont change water but once a month. I am flirting with not changing it that often. I have been seeing much better results with less water changes. I do skim the tank and it does have a fuge and massive ammounts of live rock and also a DSB.
thanks aquarius77, i have a seaclone 100 skimmer, a 20 gal sump, and 145 lbs of LR. i want to find the best tecnique to keep my reef healthy and beautiful. i like those pics you posted, will consider you advices,, thanks.
IMHO consider junking your Seaclone and getting a different skimmer. Virtually ANYTHING else would be an upgrade, and would be a greater concern to me than Carbon or no. I am surprised your seaclone is doing anything for you on a 72. My ole SC100 did nothing for me on my ole 55 FOWLR. Just a thought. Good luck to you.
