care for purple death

i have several frags and a mother colony of these currently. the mother colony is on my sand bed with low light and decent flow, the 2 other frags are on my frag rack with high light and decent flow. my mother colony took forever to open up and it only would open when it was on the sand bed offset from my halide. but these frags happen to love light... go figure.

i recomend you start the frag you just got on the sand bed with decent flow.

I have mine in med flow and med light. Well, a little more than halfway down the tank with 250w 14k MH for lighting. I don't know if thats considered med light. hehe

I bought a single polyp about a month ago. I was told by the guy at the LFS that he had very slow growth rate in his tank at home. About a polyp a month he had. In the month I have had it there are 5 babies growing off the original polyp. =D

I would say they can handle high light levels, but acclimate them slowly. They tend to develop speckling if they get shocked with a sudden increase in light. I have a colony about 2/3 of the way up in my 75 under 6 T-5's. I also have some on the sandbed. They tend to be brighter with more light ( and of a bluer spectrum), but they'll grow fine under lot of conditions, even under PC's.

From what I've seen, yes, after a while--probably once they've adjusted to the lighting. Generally I try to move them up slowly. I've had them speckle when moved from a tank with PC to the bottom of a tank lit by T-5's, so not much I could do to move them lower, so they just had to adjust. I wouldn't try to put them up near a MH bulb, though, and expect them to just "deal".

mine are about 18" directly under a 10 250 Hammy.Ive fragged them 6x,& had them a year.In short mine love the light.

Got mine in a buddies 30 gallon cube while my 90 is going up. Its at the bottom with 4 t5's for lighting. Medium flow. Started with 3 polyps a couple months ago...got about 15 now.

i have always had more success with more lights...but I started them in the SB and then moved them up halfway. Now I have got colonies coming out of my ears!!!
