Caribbean Blue Zoas

My LFS has some Caribbean Blues that look incredible. Completely blue, stems centers, and skirts with very light mouths, but just the very center. There is about 25 polyps on the piece i was just wondering how much something like that normally sells for because its pretty expensive in the store. I put it on hold and i am going to pick it up sometime this week, but i just wanted to see if i am getting a good deal or not. Anyone have these and how much did you pay?

i got some like that a year ago but they did not last long..i got 30 or 40 polyps for $25...i think caribbeans are some of the most picky zoas that i have kept..i have never had much luck with them so i don't try them anymore...i have heard that they need to be kept at a little lower temps.

Ditto to what wrasseguy said. Mine never looked that great, and kind of just melted away. They were mostly a light blue color, tannish skirts. Don't remember what I paid. Meanwhile, other stuff I got in that same order is still thriving in my reef.

$0.02

I work with the Blue Kiss caribbean morph. Caribbeans like lots of 20K light in my experience, and a decent amount of flow. I have tried them under 14K as well, but they just dont seem to like it very well. They survive, but dont open up at all like they do for me under 20K lighting. Caribbeans are definitely a bit more picky than allot of zoos.

thanx for the info guys. i think i am going to frag the peice and keep one in my friends tank under halides and one piece in my tank under VHOs and see how it goes. The particular ones i am getting r a very deep blue, but not a bright looking color. They r navy blue, and the best analogy i can think of for them is if the bright electic blue color morphs are high gloss paint these ones r flat paint. Very dark blue but with a flat finish. Hopefully it works out and i can keep them alive.

i hope all goes well..they do sound very nice and i have seen some very nice looking caribbean zoas..plz keep us updated on how both frags work out

I have the blue kisses as well and they are the slowest growing zoas ever. I have had them 2+ years and they have put off maybe 5 new polyps! Very healthy though

For the first year+ they were about 18" under a 4x54w T5 Tek Light with low/med flow, temp 78 SG 1.025

Now they are about 14-16" in between a 250w and 400w 20k MH with med flow ( alternating flow) All other prams are the same.

My Blue Kiss actually grow pretty well. Not fast by any means, but not as slow as stated above. But then again, they are pretty much all captive propagated frags now. I have had them for about 5 years. The original colony is gone, but the offspring live on. ;)

Hey Rob. Whats up? Didn't pick up on the username. Sorry about that. :) I know what you mean about them not being a fast grower. I have been getting the best growth out of them under 20K 250 MH. They are shallow in the system. About 6" under the water and the light is about 10-12" off the water.

well i picked them up last night, most of them opened after a short time in my tank and they looked pretty good. hopefully they will all be open when i get home from work today and i'll be able to get a picture.

here's a couple pics. they look more purple in the pics, but they r more blue in person. Some of the skirts on top have a brownish tint also, thats from the light hitting them directly in the pic, all the skirts are the same color as the disks like the ones towards the bottom. one pic with day lights on, one with 50/50 and actinics.
