CaribSea Aragonite Reef Floor Sand - Good/Bad?

Hello all! New to the forum here and I thought I would ask a question about aragonite sand.

I am looking to select a substrate for my new tank and like the look of the CaribSea Aragonite Reef Floor sand. I've been reading the various posts on RC about substrate and it seems that you need to be careful not to get too fine of a sand to keep the powerheads from blowing it around and on any corals. And too coarse, like crushed coral, leads to detritus issues, not friendly to burrowing critters, etc.

I was thinking that the Reef Floor Sand would be a happy medium. I would appreciate hearing any suggestions or experience with this sand or any other sand/substrate that you more experienced reefers have. Thanks in advance.

I have the caribsea aragalive bahamas oolite (fine) in my tank. I have to be a little careful with flow but it's not bad at all. I also have a tall 30" tank which helps a little too. Looks nice and clean.

Tropic Eden Reefflakes would be my suggestion, super clean, perfect size, and just a great quality product.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like Reef Flakes are popular with everyone.

Well I ended up ordering 80lbs of the CaribSea Reef Floor. It was on sale that was going to end so I had to pull the trigger on it. It was tough to beat the price at $50 delivered to my door for the 80 lbs. Most places I looked at had the 40 lb. bag for about $72, so I think I did alright.

Medium grain is good: small enough for sandsifting critters, stable enough not to blow and kill corals.

The caribsea special seaflor grade is pretty popular, that's what I use myself, handles flow w/out blowing around, you got a pretty good deal there.

I used 40lb of it mixed with Bimini Pink & Fiji Pink to add different grain sizes. Fiji & Bimini are about the same size (appears to be finer than the reef floor sand) but Bimini has some small rocks & shells mixed throughout.

Forgot to add - make sure you rinse it well.

Where did you get your CaribSea sand? I'm looking to buy soon.

Rob

I found it at Petsmart of all places. They were running a one day special on it. They don't sell it in the retail stores apparently and it had to be purchased online, at least that's what their website indicated.

Thanks for the heads up! Based on some of the reviews I've read, it sounds like its pretty dirty stuff.
