Carnivore Yellow Tang

Purchased a yellow tang from lfs. Beautiful fish. Only problem is that it will only eat meat. Frozen algae cubes and green nori (grocery unflavored) are the only two veggies that I have tried. He grazes in LR and I feed him Rod's and spirulina brine shrimp with selcon and vitachem. Before I go off buying all sorts of veggie food praying he will take it is there anyone who has had this issue with their yellow tang? Proven methods? (I've tried green nori on a veggie clip and tied to rocks along with garlic = fail)

How long have you had him for? if he's still new to your tank he could just be nervous. They should eat flakes and pellets no problem, he just might need more time to get use to his new life

I got an Atlantic Blue Tang that loves eating chopped scallops, and chopped shrimp. Give it more time though. I bet he will hit the nori clip one day..

This probably is no big deal; if he's grazing a lot and your tank is mature, he may find as much greens as he needs. Tangs on the reef eat all kinds of meaty items; tiny crustaceans, etc. I agree with your approach; usually this type of thread results in a string of every food on the planet. A fish will eat the standard foods for his species when he's ready. I have a lot of tangs and every one of them fed heavily on meaty stuff for a long time before discovering nori. They still eat a lot of meaty foods and this isn't unnatural; they scarf lots of little meaty snacks along with the algae on the reef.

These fish are not herbivores, they are naturally omnivores, and if he is picking at the rock he is getting some veggie material in his diet. If he doesnt want nori no big deal, he can get enough veggie nutrition from spirulina and "herbivore" frozen and dried foods (formula 2, etc).
