Hello,
Just wondering what everyone feeds these guys. I got the carpet from Petco
. It seems to like pmeyis. Just looking to hear from your experiences. Any info would be great.

I used to have a Sabae and feed it shrimp, mysis, etc.. My GBTA I have now I feed oysters, shrimp, etc. so I would think similarly for the carpet as well.

I have 3 mini maxi carpets and I feed them frozen krill once a week. They love it they close up right away and eat it open back up. I also have 8 sexy shrimp that host them and they carry mysis back to them all the time.

Awesome, so maybe it is safe to get some raw shrimp from the market maybe? He is pretty good size. Close to ten inches across. I do not know the exact species. It is a powder blue in color? Or maybe Or maybe I am colorblind. He ate the frozen food I gave him with a baster. Myy cleaner shrimp went to score on this meal and apears to have been stung as he backed off real quick. :)

Just be careful with the raw stuff. Make sure it's a reputable place. Mini maxi don't punch a sting at all. My cleaner try to steal it all the time but the carpets are smart and close up really fast it's cool to watch.

How about a nice chunk of cooked shrimp. Watching mine eat was cool. It took a while. Half an hour maybe.
I was just thinking with its size that a bigger type of meal may be good. Maybe a couple days a week?

I'm not sure about the cooked shrimp. They eat it raw in the wild so my guess is not a good idea. They feed off photosynthesis as well so feeding them once a week is plenty. Over feeding could be bad as well. I feed small pieces like less than half inch long. Feeding yours a whole piece of krill should be plenty.

Most anemones do better with smaller pieces of food. They expend less energy consuming small pieces. I would stick with mysis and other similar options as well as mixing in thumb-nail sized pieces of shrimp, scallop, etc.
Also, if you have sufficient lighting, then feeding isn't really even necessary, certainly not every other day.
If you post a pic of the carpet then we should be able to identify it.

thay actually don't need to be fed. they get everything they need from light and they demand a lot of light. you can feed them but if you do like postal said small pieces.

Here is a pic . Thanks for all the cool feed back.

nice carpet anemone, as long as you have good enough lighting and a mature enough tank it will do fine, I had one in a 55g that I lost when i moved took up about a qtr of the tank!

That is a haddoni carpet anemone. It will need very good lighting as well as 4" sandbed to be at its happiest.
The gaping mouth is a bit of an issue, but hopefully it will close up once it gets acclimated.

dont worry about what to feed it......worry about your other inhabitants. one of the best reefing days i ever had is when i got rid of that lean mean green fish eating machine of a carpet anemone i had. punch to da wallet after 6 or so victims.

It was eating at the time . The shrimp caused that reaction I believe. Not usual to look that way. He has good light and plenty of sand and current.

Nice anemone, How big is your tank? I had one in my 125 a few years back and I fed it fresh raw shrimp. When they are healthy they are very sticky, mine ate all my fish including my 6" yellow tang. I ended up selling it (it was 12"-14" when fully opened) with a pair of clown fish hosting it.
