carpet anemone in breeder tank

Hi, i'm new to this site, I hope you can answer my questions or point me in the right way. I currently have a 45 gallon reef tank, but I want to dabble with the breeding of saddleback clowns. I planned on having the breeding tank, a fish only one without the live rock. I was wondering if I could put a carpet anemone in there without the rock? I have some bubble tips in my reef and I know they like the rock to stick on, but I'm not too firmilure with carpet ones. Would a standard canister be good for a fish only? Only asking cause my reef doesn't really have a canister or any hang on the back filters. Any help would be great.

First off, saddle backs are one of the harder clowns to get breeding.
May want to try a different type -- if this is your first go around with breeding clowns.
Second, which type of carpet?? Haddonis prefer the sand bed, the other main (there are other, but these are the most common), one
(my spelling is awful, so I won't even try) prefer rocks.
As for canisters, I personally don't like them, others do. As long as you keep up with the upkeep of them, they aren't too bad.

You could make a sump (filter) for the breeder tank for about the same money that would be spent on a canister. The best part about the sump is that you could always add additional tanks w/ minimual work (different clowns, percs, maroons, ect.).

I was trying to say away from a sump because where the tank is going there is no room. I don't think i'm going to need tooo much cause I will only have two fish in the tank, so it won't be too much of a bioload. Just planned on a cheap canister and a good hang on skimmer. As far as the carpet goes, i'd like a Stichodactyla haddoni?? What is a better type of clown to breed? I'm a big fan of the saddles. How about true percula clowns or maroon ones?

This is just my experience, so keep that in mind. I had a pair (male/female) of saddlebacks for 2 years, never could get them to breed. Had a pair of GSM that would lay every 3 weeks, my clarkii pair, which I still have, every 3 weeks. I've had my pair of pink skunks for about 6 months now, they aren't breeding yet, but from watching them, I would think they will soon.
