Carpet anenomes vs. leathers?

In Memoriam
I have a 14" carpet anenome that is at the bottom of my 90 gallon tank...48x18x24. I have a leather about 6 to 8 inches above him on some rockwork. It looks like the leather is unhappy and may even be receding from the edges, so I'm wondering if the anenome can or will send out toxins or do they just rely on a local sting for protection?

I run carbon, but the only one that seems to mind is one of my finger leathers every now and then, but the toadstool is always being touched and it is always opened and there is no burn marks

OTOH, I've got a maxi-mini tapetum carpet that nearly killed my fiji leather. Not touching, but in the same tank.
