carpet nem questions?

Well more like I need a crash course. I don't want to JUMP into getting one till I know enough about them...but I just don't even know where to start looking. I don't even know the first question to ask.

I have a 36" ATI PM for lighting. it's the brightest thing I've ever used. I also jsut set up a new (bigger) tank for my inhabitants which include to occilaris (sp?), a six line wrase, and a fox face. I'm worried that the nem will EAT my fish...and I hear that they are dangerous to humans. But I see many people with them. and now that I have an upgraded (and much more advanced) tank than I used to...I'm wanting to try my hand at one for my clowns.

SO....

Anyone have any good links...or anyone want to post any useful info about how to handle and care for them.

feel free to ask ME questions just to see if I have all the right STUFF to even keep one.

I'm a noob to nems...and I just want to do this right.

It definitely has eaten it's share of fishes. But usually very new acquisitions that were getting accepted into the "social structure" of the tank. Wrasses, chromis, and dither fish seem most likely to have been victims.

I recently moved the emperor angel to another tank, added a few wrasses, and things have really settled down. But the bigger fish in the tank have never been hurt, eaten.

Do your reading. Don't put it into anything like a new tank.

are you thinking of a haddoni or a gigantea?

I was guessing a haddoni...I would assume that the other is to large/difficult for me to keep.

Well both a somewhat difficult to keep although S. gigantea is typically more difficult. However haddoni carpets are more notorius for eating fish. If you really have no experience with nems I wouldn't particularly recommend either carpet for you. But if you take the time to learn how to take care of them before you buy one you might be ok. What kind of lighting are you running? Can you post any pics of your tank right now?

like I said, it's a ATI PowerModule, 6 bulb T5. Very 20K-ish. It's the brightest light I've ever owned, much brighter than my old halides.

But I'm still going to let the tank mature and not jump into the nem prematurely.
