Carpet Nem

Flightpipe

Sea Turtles Love Me......
I pulled the trigger and got a green carpet from a LFS. id is still iffy I think a Haddoni (sp) He is drip acclimating now. Is 3" enough sand for him or will he want more I will be acclimating for a while so I have time!

He is so sticky it was like velcro on my hands! I am suddenly WAY more scared its gonna eat my fish!

Very nice green haddoni

Has its mouth closed all the way ?

Does it bother you that the firefish is swimming too close to it?

Those pics were 5 mins after I put him in. mouth is closed tight now and he has expanded slightly larger than these pics. Firefish eh I don't mind if he is dumb enough so be it. What I really don't want to lose is my red scooter blenny, but i cannot catch him! So im not sue what I am gonna do on that one. Funny thing my two clowns are hosting my orange monti like always this morning they are not 2" away from the carpet but they wont even look at it!

The LFS was not sure about what kind it was but I think 100% haddoni and with how sticky he was when i handled him I am a lil worried about him eating my clowns if they ever do go in. He was like superglue!

All three of mine ( Haddonis, which is what yours is ) are in sandbeds of about 2-3 inches, which I think is fine.

This guy must not have been happy at the LFS cuz he is ALOT bigger now! I am definitely worried about my fish! He makes my 75 look like a 20L.

Very nice looking after it settled in! Your tank is not over stocked so the fish are a 50/50 chance, my haddoni (red) ate a manderiane and a fox face! I have just accepted that its not safe to add any fish to my 90!

Ever since I put this nem in my tank my skimmer has gone nuts!! I barely got any of the lfs waterin my tank so does the nem make anything that would do this to my skimmer?

That seems odd, I have never noticed that when I added any of my Haddonis.

Have you been doing any thing else different?

But, I guess there is a chance that it is expelling something that is changing the surface tension of the water, which would make a skimmer go nuts.

The only thing new is the nem. I haven't changed anything else I came close to an overflow twice! I just adjusted the cup up as high as it will go for now I guess I'll just wait it out.

and BTW my percs have taken more interest in my feather duster than the haddoni lately, every now and again Ill catch em in it but i cant get a picture!

They slime up a bit don't they? i've only handled a carpet once when I worked at an LFS and since then realizing I was sensative to its sting asked other employees to do so afterward. its possible its just released something gooey into the water like that thats doing it.. .Unless you accidentally tracked a substance in on yourself when putting it in the tank.

You know, I'm not a fan. They are nasty stingers to me personally (break out the vinegar!), I've had so many people tell me theirs ate their fish, the concept of this moving on its own scares me, but seeing that color green in your tank really, really makes me wish I had one.. almost. If it werent for it just being a skinny 55 I'd really consider it.

Maybe when I have a bigger tank I'll save up and hunt down a red one. But dang, you actually have me thinking on a carpet, that takes a lot. Color me jealous!

Flightpipe --- That is odd, but all you can do is wait it out, and maybe run some fresh carbon.

chrisstie --- you know you want to get one. I love all three of mine (( Blue, tan and green ))

Tod- I washed up before hand so I dont know why its doing it im running carbon so ill just wait and see. It would not be a normal day without something quirky going on my tank!

Chrisstie,

Thankfully Im not sensitive to its sting cuz I would have been torn up when I put him in! It was like superglue, at one point he had both my hands and wrist and would not let go, I pulled but he was hanging on so tight i though I was gonna rip the pedal! I just had to wait till he figured out he couldn't eat me.

He is HUGE but I am very happy with him and I think think he was a great buy! When i upgrade to a 150+ (haven't decided yet) he will not dominate one side of my tank like he does now.

Now if only my percs would go near him I would be set!

I've been really pondering about buying an Haddoni and I think your pics just put me over the edge. I am a little concerned about it eating my fish, though. I have all swimmers with the exception of my Longnosed Hawkfish.

The only two fish that I have lost over the last 9 years of keeping Haddonis were a yellow watchman goby and a Mandarin --- both of which aren't active swimmers.

Maybe a couple more pictures will put you all the way over the edge.

that blue is sic! your tank looks great! My fish all tempt death 24/7 they all get SO CLOSE I have just given up worrying i couldnt catch em to get em out anyways.

Toddrtrex - my cleaner shrimp run all over my nem and even seem to pick at it at times. at feeding time they rip off whatever sticks to him do you have any issues wuth yours.

Note* I feed the nem silversides I have started with every other day the food i am talking about at feeding time with random pieces that stick.
