Carpet surfing

Cleaning my tank today and my 14 year old percula clown fish started stabbing at the surface aggressively. Next thing I knew he was flying thru the air heading for the floor ! I've had my hands in my tank a thousand times and never had this happen. He seems ok but I've aged a couple years!

No it’s on carpet. I think it was just being protective of his habitat. Just thought I’d share a funny story. Didn’t think that clowns would jump out like that. I leave the top off a lot. Not any more!

I didn't think of that. I've spoken to several hobbyists who told me their clowns attack them every time they put their hands in the tank. They are very territorial.

I've had a carpet surfing clown before. I was home the first time and saved it. Second time, not so lucky.

I've had my clown rise to the surface when I'm cleaning the tank or doing anything in it, and she usually tries to nip or bite at me. I've yet to see her leap out at me though!

My clowns use a hammer as host as well. I always thought one was part piranha when I got near the hammer. But never to this extreme. Lesson learned. Netting on.
