Carpets and eating fish?

honestly I would go into it thinking that the fish are expendable. If they aren't then don't get the carpet.

I tend to have larger fish normally. I'm just trying to do some research and weigh all info before maybe getting one in the future. I've always wanted one, but they've always been that one creature I cant bring myself to try. Please someone give me the info I need to make the right choice. Just tell me everything you know so I can know and we can all know.

Haddoni's are notorious fish eaters. If you have one of these I would be a little nervous, as I just lost a 3 inch yellow tang to my Blue haddoni. I noticed the tang was not present when feeding nori, and the next thing you know the anemone was excreting the remains of the tang.

I had a purple tang - had being the operative word - and found a nice set of tang bones piled beside the carpet one day. The tang was about 4".

Yes. They eat fish. It's well documented. They even eat clowns on occasion.

My green Haddoni had a nice powder blue tang meal one day. I would have to say that the Haddoni was about 12" wide and the powder blue was close to 5" long. They will take a meal if they can.

Thats an expensive snack. I've always had bubble tips. I heard that picassos loose there black color with bubble tips though. Looking for another option. I think you guys talked me out of the carpet.

if it is healthy(sticky), it will eat fish. no question about it, it's only a matter of time.

as stated already if you prize your fish chose another anemone.

Every anemone has the potential to eat fish. Generally speaking, haddoni is considered the more likely culprit. I did however witness my M. doreensis eat a healthy high fin gobie that perched a little too close to it.

Lost a Spotted Mandarin to my Haddoni 3 days after introducing the anemone. It also ate a peppermint shrimp & a dispar anthias soon after. A healthy Haddoni will eat your fish. Like kimber said, it's only a matter of time.

wanted to add, I've personally seen a Haddoni eat a large saddleback clown at the LFS. They had put the anemone in a small biocube for display and thought it would be nice to add the clown. The clown had so little room that he was forced to host in the thing before acclimating to it. The clown was engulfed as soon as it entered the tank!

all carpet anemones will eat fish. They are the most "aggressive" to say so, but the most passive of the carpet anemones is the S. Gigantea I believe, not saying it wont eat a healthy fish but the chances are less than with a haddoni

In my 12+ years of keeping Haddonis I have only lost 2 fish (( currently have 5 of them, have had at least 3 for the last 3 years )). One of the fish that I lost was a yellow watchman goby and the other was a Mandarin, 2 fish that I will never keep with Haddonis again -- because of their swimming habits.

I don't really think that Gigantea's are much less aggressive than others. I just think fewer people are able to keep them alive to witness them eat a fish. My S. Gigantea ate a perfectly healthy 6" female crosshatch trigger.
