can anyone out there tell me how to catch a maroon clown in a 120 reef with 150 lbs of rock and plenty of coral. tried the trap thing he laughed at me. we're really not getting along! i've moved rock around (as much as i can) tried to net him. didn't work! he taughnts me when i walk by help me

I've caught a lot of fish with the acrylic fish trap that Aquatic Ecosystems sells. Cost something like $20. Used various baits depending on the fish. If he's hungry enough, he'll go into the trap!

I've used a huge ziploc baggie opened behind a rock or wherever it seems to like to dart and then chased the fish into in with a net, if you are lucky it may not see the bag, swim in and then not find the opening before you can grab it closed

Have you tried catching it with the lights out? Just lunars/LEDs or a flashlight on?
Try turning all the tank lights off, along with all the room lights. Shine the flashlight in the tank, but not directly on the fish. Then try netting him. ;)
It actually will depend on where he goes at lights out though.

Thats how I caught my clown

Use a large clear trashbag and cut the bright lights off. Open the bag on one end of the aquarium and then chase the clown towards it. They will usually go into the bag and then you can work them out of that.

get the smallest hook you can find and cut, grind or file the barb off. Tie some monofilament line on, bait the hook with it's favorite food and you're fishing.

And no, I'm nat being a smart arse.

Well I am 2 for 2 on this one. I just recently caught a cinnamon clown using a 16 gauge hook with a small piece of monfilament attached to a short blind rod. Attached a small ghost shrimp, first cast! Small blemish on his cheek from the hook, but he is doing fine. Used the trap, net feeding he just laughed at me. Now I am laughing...LOL
Tried the trap, net feeding etc...
This definatley worked for me. This also worked for me catching a grouper....be quiet Barry...LMAO
