Catching Fish Out

i was wondering if i can get a small hook and file it down if it will be ok to catch my v - tail grouper about 3 inch or so big???

Some may find that as being cruel or inhumane. I guess it work though. I would suggest filing off the barb on the hook. Maybe try using 2 lagrer nets, and have someone help you net him instead?
Or try a fish trap.

(I am really trying hard to not laugh as I picture this in my head) Make sure you put all the lamps and other fragile items before you make your first cast. Lord, please forgive me for that one.

And this from someone who used a shop vac to get fish out of the overflows. :eek1:

It should work pretty well, groupers are as tough as nails. Just make sure you don't let him shallow it too far. You really can't reach in a 3" groupers mouth real well.

please have someone take pictures - if you cant get him out what i always do is use like 10 nets and put them all over the tank and scare him into a corner and then net him up. you could also just use a big hose and a big powerhead and some big buckets and drain your tank into them and then net him. dont forget to pump the water back into your tank though. :-D

LOL, how did that turn out for the fish?

I have had great success with many different fish using the clear acrylic fish traps that are sold at Aquatic Ecosystems for $20.

Carole has a great technique that always worked for me. Lower the water level as much as possible and it will be 10 times easier to catch.

FIRST DARN CAST CAME UP AND HOOKED IT LIKE A PRO. IT WAS KINDA FUN WACHING HIM SWIM AROUND WITH THE HOOK IN HIS MOUTH. BUT DID NO HARM AT ALL AND HE IS SAFE AT THE STORE.

I hope you remembered to go purchase a saltwater fishing license if you didn't already have one lol.
