Catching large fish

Hello I have a vilmangi and unicorn tang that have both outgrown my tank. I need to get these guys out asap. Plus they take huge dumps and hog all of the food. They also bump into my coral and have fragged my sps for me several times.

I have a fish trap but they are to big. The unicorn stick his head in and half his body is outside of the trap. not effective

I was thinking of fishing them out but i dont want to hurt them.

Catching them with a net is going to be tricky.

i would like to hear what techniques others have done

I haven't tried this one, but I have heard its effective. Empty 75% of your water into some containers, it makes it easy to catch fish because they can't go into many places, then you just add the water back in once they are caught.

Wait until night time a few hours after pitch black dark, then turn the lights on and try to catch them with a net. Sometimes they will be stunned and you can catch them. Some fish are not affected by this so you have to try it out to see if it works.

This is how I did it, when I had to catch my large angelfish.

I do the same, sometimes you can pin them during the day and force them into nets. Use a rubber net though, not a mesh one. I got one for trout fishing for larger fish, works great, safe on the fish.

agree with all of the above, ime poly trout nets are the safest net to use...though if the fish is real big a small barbless hook and piece if fresh clam...

For bigger fish i have always divided the tank with eggcrate and then drain as much water as you can into bins. Easy to catch when There is nowhere for them to go.
