catching octopus in Galveston?

i do alot of crabbing in Galveston/Crystal Beach and i was wondering if there are any octopus species that could be caught in shallow waters. if so, what would be the best way to go about trapping?

alternatively, does anyone know where i might find live otcopus from local fisherman? by the time they hit the fish markets they're long dead.

any help is appreciated. thanks!

Unfortunatly, Most (if not all) octopus fisherman use hooks to snag them out of the rocks.

I would doubt any animal could survive being hooked and dragged out of a rock. You are better off catching them by hand at night.

If I'm not mistaken there is a huge octopus/ceph research facility
in the Houston area, associated with a major university, check with www.tonmo.com for further details, under ceph's as pets.

If you havent' already found it, that research facility is in Galveston and is The National Resource Center for Cephalopods. I'm one of the many college interns working there.
