I saw my melanurus wrasse pull one out of a rock and schlurp it down like linguine. Sweet.
I had a bazillion bristles until they were displaced by small brittle stars. It appears the brittles out competed the bristles and now they are no more. When I moved a year ago I didn't find a single bristle worm despite complete tank disassembly.
I expierienced something similar Ken. i used to have a ton of bristles and almost no brittles. I cant even remember the last time i saw a bristle in my tank but i get tiny brittle legs poking out everywhere when i feed.
They are generally considered a valuable part of a clean up crew. Some people find larger ones and others are just plain freaked out by them. Touching them can result in an localized itching and swelling / dermatitis as their bristles are very fine and irritating.
