caulerpa for refugium

hi, I was just wondering if cheato is better than caulerpa. read somewhere that caulerpa can goes sexual and release the nutrient back into the tank, is that correct? thanks

so am i better off with only cheato or a mixture of both?

Yes just use chaeto. Caulerpa is taking a change.

There's a thread in the Advanced Topics forum on a duplex-sump design that discusses the pro's and con's to each in a little detail. According to MrWilson in that thread, the caulerpa goes sexual when the lighting period is either too short, or is gradually reduced simulating a change in seasons. On a plus side, it does not trap detritus as readily as a heavy ball of chaeto...
