Hi all,
My first clam is showing some pinching of the mantle in a couple of spots. Other parts of the mantle however extend well past the shell. Additionally, the clam is opening less and less at its "hinge", so that today I could barely see the siphons. I've had the clam for about 3 weeks, the pinching has been noticable for maybe 10 days, slowly getting worse. I've been reading about the disease that was going around (last fall?), so I'm heating up some RO water to do a FW dip, but I wanted to see if you all could think of any other reasons I might be seeing this problem.
The clam is a 3.5" crocea (was sold to me as a maxima, but after looking at pictures I'm 99% sure it's a crocea)
It is firmly attached to a scallop shell on the sandbed, around 20" from 3x250 XM metal halides
Earlier tonight I removed with tweezers a small anemone from the lip of the shell (looked for all the world like a 5mm BTA), since then, the clam actually looks worse
No signs of any snails on or around the clam (however the lights are still on)
I have no evidence of any inhabitants bothering the clam
The clam is responsive to light and touch
Tank is a 180 mixed, all other inhabitants, from colt leathers to acropora to fish are doing well.
I feed DT's every other day, as well as cyclop-eze, formula 1&2, and mysid.
pH 8.1-8.3
Calcium 420 (last night anyway)
Alk 12dKH
nitrate undetectable
phosphate undetectable
all tests except alk are brand new salifert kits
That's all I can think of to tell you, anything that jumps out at you all, or should I go ahead and try the dip? I will be happy to post pics if someone can tell me how to get a Fuji Finepix 2800Z to focus through the !@#$% glass:rolleye1:
Thanks for your help,
Jayme
