Well first off, the history of this fish.

Had it a little over 4 weeks now. Got it from LiveAquaria. Looked great until now.

I decided to get a Copperband based on the hope that it might help eliminate vermetid snails (something I've heard as possible, but mileage may vary).

I put the CBB in the 50G refugium where there are lots of pods and bristle worms to snack on. Indeed for the first couple weeks I saw him eating creatures in the refugium while ignoring frozen food. Recently he has been eating mysis, krill, spirulina brine, and all sorts of things which is good.

I just noticed this huge exploded sore underneath one fin and what appears to be some white parasite sticking out. The rear shots show this in more detail. Also an area on the same side shows damage to the scales (could be unrelated?):

I will try to use my macro lens to get a clearer picture tonight.

I should have QT'd before putting him in my refugium (although I'm not positive he would have eaten frozen foods at first in a QT tank!).

Still eating and behaving OK, although he is obviously twitching especially with his fins, as if trying to shake something off.

Does anybody have any idea what this is?

Lymphocystis? Looks kind one of like the exploded wounds that it can cause.

Maybe secondary fungal infection?

Could that small white dot sticking out of the wound actually be a parasite of some kind?

Any suggestions for treatment?

Thanks!
