Celebrations are in order

I just thought I would share a little bit of victory with everyone.
Ever since I tore down my 55 gallon and went with my 20 gallon I've had a serious green hair algae infestation. I kept telling myself, "Be patient and have good reefkeeping practices and it will go away."
Three months later, it looks to be going away. One of my largest rocks is almost completely clean.
It seemed like everyday I would check my tank and the algae that I had just removed had doubled in size. So I'd do a water change, I got more cleanup crew, I'd pull more algae off, I'd feed my poor "starving" little fishes less...
And finally, Its not growing back!
Yeah!

Thanks for listening to my little celebration. :D

(BTW, I think that the hermit crabs are doing a better job keeping it clean than the expensive Turbo snails that my LFS keeps trying to get me to buy. The Turbos won't hardly touch the rock. They stay on the glass until its crystal clean and then they die. I put them on the rock and they go back to the perfectly clean glass. The hermit crabs are kicking butt.)

!!! Yay. I've dodged every green hair algae outbreak so far.. my time will come. It's nice to hear success stories. Any pics, before and after? :) or maybe that is pushing it.

Great job! I had a HUGE gha outbreak in my last tank, and I know how much work it is to fight that stuff every single day! Congrats!

I could be wrong, but I have 1 blue leg/gallon and 1 emerald for every 5-10/gallons and have no problem with algea. I put frags in my tank that have hair algea on them and they attack it and the frags are clean in a few hours. Trick may be getting ahead of the outbreak while the crabs can still get the upper hand. The downside is it can make feeding LPS very frustrating.

Rosseau: Sorry no pics. Camera was stolen. Anyway, its not gone yet. This is just the first sign of hope.

Jadams: It definately is a fight. Feels like a full time job. Oh well, I'd be sad if I didn't have an excuse to mess with something in the tank. Its become my nightly ritual.

Smithcreek: My problem was that I changed tanks very quickly. Everything got out of hand because everything was unstable from the tank move. The little bit I had in the old tank went nuts in the new tank. Before I knew it, it had the upper hand. I think at this point I have 2 blue legs/gallon and no emeralds. I've heard too many horror stories about them and I'm nervous to get one. Hopefully, "I" now have the upper hand.

i dont like turbo snails because i never have any luck with them. they do not eat any diatom on my tank and just like yours, they end up dead. i stick with trochus and astreas because they do a good job eating algae off my rocks and glass

The only ones I have any luck with are the nassarius. I bought 10 about 8 mths ago and I think that I have around 18 now. That's the kind of math that I like. I've had a few astreas that are doing okay, but they don't seem to do much as far as clean up.

For detritus, nassarius, for algea, Ceriths and nerites. I think Turbos look goofy in a nano and once they fall on their back they're stuck. The nerites look great, are real hardy and do a good job eating algea.
