How many times has Centropyge nahackyi been spotted in Hawaii and what island?

They are found at the big island, very rarely, and very deep. A friend has seen them 3 times there around 250-300 feet depth.

C. nahackyi was actually described with specimens collected in Hawaii. But it is very rare there, and only collected in a few places in the Big Island. Also, very deep as Jazzman says. In Johnston however, they are all over the place, as shallow as 90 feet.

there are groups of rebreather divers in Hawaii and it's surrounding islands who go 400+ft depth....i wonder why nobody still caught one in last 5 years(well i started seriously following this hobby from 2008),if there were sporadic sightings...

One of my dream fish for sure! Would buy two in a heartbeat if I had the moneyz for it, and I could pair them without too much hassle.

Seeing one and catching one alive at 300' are two very, very different issues. ;)

I'm a little confused.... does HI have a breeding population, regardless of depth, or are we just talking about lots of waifs?

I think we are talking about waifs here. According to fishbase, the distribution of this fish is "Eastern Central Pacific: Johnston Atoll. Strays reported from the Hawaiian Islands."

Then why would anyone expect divers to be catching them, if it's a once in a time occurance?

But surely there are divers in Kona that are equipt to go that deep and considering the beautiful colouration of the fish they will be able to make money on them when they are collected.

Has the Nahackyi even been retailed before? Anyone know this and what the asking price was?

assuming that if they caught one it will most likely go to Japan, such price is very much given....
price also fall along the 'batch'...out of first 3 narcosis caught in the last year,2 sold for $18000 each...one was kept at Blue Harbor...when the next lot of narcosises appeared along with peppermint angelfishes(which went at $20000 a piece),they sold at considerably less......
