Centropyge nahackyi in Hawaii??

Japan or Hong Kong. Those guys dont mind paying for exotics. Peppermints and Narcosis are beautiful but the pricing is extremely high. The 1st Narcosis in the US sold for $ 5000 on DD. DD got it from QM which offered them at a much lower price but then a few years later..... inflation!

Yeah there was a video recently of a few of them. The guys that generally see them and catch them on video are divers who dont collect and will not touch these guys or give out the information on where they have been seen.

But surely there are divers in Kona that are equipt to go that deep and considering the beautiful colouration of the fish they will be able to make money on them when they are collected.

Has the Nahackyi even been retailed before? Anyone know this and what the asking price was?

Surely? I don't know that for sure. I was under the impression that the number of people in the entire world that are willing to go to 300' AND can catch a tiny little angelfish while they're down there was in the single digits.

assuming that if they caught one it will most likely go to Japan, such price is very much given....
price also fall along the 'batch'...out of first 3 narcosis caught in the last year,2 sold for $18000 each...one was kept at Blue Harbor...when the next lot of narcosises appeared along with peppermint angelfishes(which went at $20000 a piece),they sold at considerably less......

Someone offered the Waikiki Aquarium $25,000 for the nahackyi when it was still alive. Japanese guy.

They offered Waikiki $ 30,000 for the Boylei as well.

They are but the ones who do it are conveniently situated in Hawaii and its surrounding areas. Ron Tubbs (Hawaii), Rufus Kimura (Hawaii), Chip Boyle (Rarotonga), Richard Pyle (Hawaii), Forrest Young (Florida). Those are the guys who are responsible for the collection of the Narcosis, Peppermint, Masked and Abei angelfish.

But as risks will show Rob Lowe died a while back from not using the correct mixes and not having enough experience when collecting the Masked Angels in Hawaii. He was in a decompression chamber 6 times till he died.

I myself am starting my rebreather course now and have been told by my instructor than I need to complete 100 - 200 dives at depths of 50 - 60m before I can move on up going to 100m.

umm...Rarotonga is in south pacific and close to NZ..also Copps told here once that Boyle doesn't deep dive any more...

i guess it is always best to take safe attitude in such diving...Lower made critical mistake of diving despite already having the bends from his previous dive and eventually paid the price...

Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Original collector of the Peppermint Angelfish. Yeah the last time I spoke to Chip he said he is not collecting that much at all at the moment.

Yeah I heard about what happen, I was talking to Ron a few weeks back and he informed me on what exactly happened. He was also not using the correct mix. We might moan about the pricing of fish such as Peppermints and Narcosis but then again I would charge the same for risking my life.

Its crazy how partial pressure gases affect our bodies at depth. A 1-2% change in o2 levels at those depths can mean the difference in toxicity and death.

I've been looking into trimix diving and such and its pretty dangerous even if you know whats going on.

Nitrox is only any real benefit up to ~80-90ft, and even then its not great. Its a shallow mixed gas that substitutes nitrogen for oxygen to give your body less dissolved Nitrogen. The deeper you go the more toxic oxygen becomes and starts to cause nervous system damage. With Trimix they add in Helium to reduce the partial pressures of Oxygen and Nitrogen giving you less O2 toxicity at depth, and less Nitrogen loading, but Helium can cause soft tissue vulnerabilities so you need to be careful not to tear a hammy or something. Alot of danger at depth.

No matter what you use. Heliox, Nitrox or the Trimix. Its still risky that deep. Even more so if something goes wrong you can just dart up to the shallows. You need to do your decompression stops on the way up. Speaking to some of the guys they say that they stay down there up until 8 hours at a time.

Oh yeah, super scary stuff they earn every dollar of those prices, I hate when people complain. That being said I would love RCT to get a breeding program for these and peps

I personally dont think that will happen. The reason I say this is because the divers who make these deep dives are used to it by now and have the experience to dive that deep. As you mentioned before risking there lives at those depths they can ask $ 15,000 - $ 20,000. So now you have RCT breeding the Narcosis and Peppermints, those prices immediately that the rebreather divers are selling them for, collapses. And I am sure those divers are aware of this so I think the only way this will be done is if RCT purchases 2 of each with the hope that they male and female for $ 20,000 each. I dont think the divers will just give him 2.

Im not saying they wont but just saying that it wont be easy. I think everyone who gets them will not want them to be bred. $20,000 drops to $5,000.

and one sounds adorable when using....:lmao:

Also keep in mind there is a much smaller market for these fish at that bracket. its alot like gem tangs. Everybody willing to pay $4,000-$7,000 has, now you can get them for $1,500.

Its just wishful thinking anyway since I really doubt captive breeders will invest in a fish that costs so much.

I see what you mean. More people will buy them but the money will no longer go to the guys that risk there lives to collect them. They now go to a 3rd party.

I would love for RCT to get hold of them! To get a Boylei for that price would be a give away. Lol. But even $4-7k is a lot of money!
