Certain metals safe for tanks?

Just curious. I know copper is not okay, but what about stainless? Anything else that can work without harm?

I would avoid any metal having direct contact with saltwater, except maybe titanium. :)

In what capacity/function do you need metal?

High Grade 316. 256 Stainless..... 256 I think is the mixture could be wrong. From a Quality Foundry Is marine safe....
I used to use a pump with a Stainless rotor for years until bearings wore out... i think it was made by Dolphin pumps.......

Metals don't do well with saltwater, plus you never know what exactly was used to make that pipe and run the risk of copper!

All my equipment has metal on it: screws, magnets, etc. I just hope they know which kinds are ok. Probably a good reason not to go cheap on gear though, I've read about tank crashes from rusted out parts. Gfo is iron, and there's aluminum in some of the ceramic media, as well as phos binders. So it's not like a tank is a metal free zone. Copper has neurological effects on fish and high levels of other stuff would be problematic (I'm guessing liver and kidney), and everything makes coral mad.

Basically, if something corrodes then that is something going into your water that you didn't put there on purpose. That's usually bad news.

Tap water is always BAD... Heavy Metal, well...

The CHEMISTS always have the answers, ( which is a good thing) but post's where the people are using RO/DI yet they're still having SIMILIAR problems baffles me... (it ain't copper) Sometimes I just think that people forget that this is a hobby and we can't necessarily build those models just as good as you can. ;)

Who said anything about tap water Cloak? That chip gonna weigh you down if you don't get it off your shoulder.
