I can't believe it. I pruned my Chaeto way back for the frag swap and it is already way grown!!!!!

Any one need some?

I would like some, but am going to be out of state this weekend. Would you be able to set some back and ship it to me the beginning of next week?
 
Once I make my sump sump/fuge for my 75 I would like some shipped but that won't be for awhile. Maybe a few weeks. :)
 
Whats your doubling time Jen??

The Chaeto I got for Adam (which I think he got from you) has been growing a little slow... taken about 5 weeks to double under my "melev" compact flo spotlight... hopefully will do better when I get my "real" fuge up... I'm running a 5 gallon bucket fuge now.
 
It grows fast for me. I cut it way back at the C-SEA swap. I could easily unload 4 sandwich baggies today.
 
If you have the right light the stuff grows very fast. This is what I use and it's great. (walmart)

I use the GE soft white 150, also purchased at Wal-Mart. It is a 42W Energy saver.

It works great. Better than my last bulb, I have no idea what it was though.
 
no she may have different cheato, I got mine from a fish store. also I keep mine under a 40 watt 6500K PC lamp and it grows out of control. I just trimmed away 50% of the growth less than 2 weeks ago and it is already regrown, I have so much that when I trim again it could fill a gallon freezer bag.
 
the bulb I use is like the one in the pic above but it is a 40 or 42 watt or something. also make sure you have the one that is 6500K, it will work really well, I bought one at another store and the color temp turned out to be crap, it didn't work at all. Wal-mart is unfortunately, the place to get these bulbs
 
I've been using that bulb and have been disappointed. My chaeto isn't growing so well lately, although the cyano sure is!!

I'm betting the Melev bulb as I have gotten a little cyano down there too-- I have good flow too.. (about 75x turnover of my fuge--since its so small)..

The only thing I like about his bulb is that the bulb is shielded (since in a spotlight) from salt creep and is focused without that big reflector that is sold with the clip on light I have-- even so I'm getting some light shining in my skimmer and am getting a little hair algae and some coraline growth inside it... will be a moot point whenever I add my "real" fuge.... I plan on getting the LOA floodlight fixture--- 65W equivalent to 500W and at 6500K... supposed to give awesome chaeto growth...

I too get glare on my skimmer which has resulted in some coralline and other algea in my skimmer, but it hasn't effected performance at at so I don't worry about it. I also get a decent amount of hair algea in the middle part of my sump and in my overflow, but I figure if it is there and not in my main tank why worry. it obviously sucks up nutrients just like any other algea and as long as it's not in the main display I don't sweat it.
