I have been trying some different things with my macro's and none of them like the same amount of light and flow. I have 2 x 20 gallon refugium tanks that have Chaeto in one and I think it is called Profila Calpura in the other tank. I had a Rio 1400 providing flow to both of the tanks which really doesn't seem like alot of flow at all and 2 x 19watt 5100k screw in light bulbs on each tank. The Chaeto loved the little flow and lights that were in there that it would fill up a 20 gallon tank in a week from a piece of chaeto the size of a softball. The Calpura did not seem to grow at all in the same conditions. I placed both macros in my 60 gallon sump with 2 of the same lights but it has about 2000 gph flow going through it and the chaeto did not grow but the Calpura doubled it's size every week. I started to get a green hair algae problem so I moved all the macro back up to the 2 x 20 gallon tanks and all the bad algae is now gone again. If I decide on placing the Calpura in my 125 gallon display tank is my Yellow Tang going to eat it? I love the way the Calpura grows like a vine and think it would look really good in there. Does anyone have any luck growing chaeto in a really high area of flow?
