Chaeto harvesting questions...

I was wondering about some other peoples opinions on how and when to harvest their chaeto. I have a relatively large sump section (about 10-12 gallons) so there's plenty of room. My chaeto is growing nicely. I started the fuge with about a softball-sized wad of it about 2 months ago and I've already chopped it in half maybe 3 times. Now its back to a huge pile that takes up 2/3 of the sump.

What I'm wondering is if it's better to run it most of the time as a rather large wad kinda simmering in there or maybe keep cutting it back really small and let it grow as kind of a hungry, go-getter type deal. In which situation do you think it grows better?

I know I have to pull some out regularly, but I'm just wondering in what kind of condition I should leave it in when I harvest.

it depends on how frequently you want to be trimming it, best is to keep it pretty large so that there is alot of it to grow and use up more nutrients, but this means cutting it up more, if you are lazy you can cut it back to a baseball size or whatever again and it will take a while to grow larger, but use less nutrients at first.
