Chaeto not surviving

I have the tank for six years and it's been established for 15+.
In my sump I have fudge where I've been successfully growing chaeto for 5 years. In the last 6 months the chaeto died (3 separate times!!) smothered by some slimy algae. I used to use Sylvana 65W, 800 lumens, 5000K LED, but that's been discontinued. Now I use Cree 65W 680 Lumen, 5000K LED. - In both cases the light hovers 6 inches above the water.
Would that make a difference?? What else could cause the chaeto failure?
Help!

Oh, and a month ago I added the second pump to move more water thru the growth. Evidently that did not help.

I get the same growth on my Chaeto after leaving the sump light on all weekend (tank is in my office at work). If I give the sump 24 hours of lights out the growth mostly goes away and the Chaeto seems to recover fairly well. I assumed it is cynao and was blocking the light from entering the water column. I curious for others to chime in with their opinion.

Wow!! I had the light ON 16 hrs/day and it seemed fine. I remember increasing time to 20 hrs and that's when the problems started. I'll reduce and see what happens. THANKS! Tom
