Chaeto...

Is this something that I need? I have a 24g Nano Cube... the one with only 2 cambers in the back.

I know that its benifical and all that... just dont know if it is something that I need to wait to worry about till I get a larger tank with a sump...

You don't need it but I have some tucked away in the display behind some rocks. All it needs it light and it will suck nutrients from the water.

Ditto in both my 12g and 24g. Newbie, if you happen to be travelling north to flagstaff, I have so much chaeto I don't know what to do with it--I need to give it away.

To steal the thread for a sec--colin, do you cut back the chaeto or wash it out regularly (or at all)? I'm unclear about this part of things.

I will sometimes see some algae form on it, if I do and my arm is already in the tank I'll hold the little clump in front of the powerhead for a second :)

If you have fish and other waste producing animals it's a great way to get nitrates out. I believe chaeto brought mine way down, very quickly.

You'll be able to keep slightly more animals with it.

There are different stains of chaeto, I have a very tough one, almost can't break it even if I try.

I know someone who does use a veggie clip with a suction cup and has it tucked into a corner, I have it wedged in between 2 rocks towards the back out of view, either way works as long as it gets light.

The chaeto will work well in the main part of the tank? you hear of anyone putting it in the back chamber of a nanocube?

yeah, and they take the black backing off of the tank and put an external light behind the tank shining into the compartment with chaeto in it. works very well apparently
