the stuff grows REALLY fast in most cases, why not just start out with a modest amount and let it grow out on its own?

because i did a bit ago but its not really growing my light is enough to keep it going but im not sure if its that great to keep it growing fast, plus a 55 gallon is ALOT to fill up lol.

if it's not growing it's really not doing you much good.

It has to adapt to your nutrient levels and if they are low it takes time for the growth to kick in. Mine did nothing for a month or so, now it grows like wild.
