Here's a picture of my chalk bass. She's a pretty cool fish.
I've had 2 of them and I've seen several others but haven't seen able to sex them.

Yeah. She's pretty big for a chalk bass, I'd say she's fat.
It's a bit difficult to feed the other fish sometimes because the bass tries to eat everything I put in the tank.
She's the most peaceful fish I have. Even my converted molly chases the bass around the tank.
I like chalk basses because they always stay out in the open and take the tank look more alive.
If you get more than one, you should get them at the same time. The biggest one will be the boss.
And remember you have to have the tank covered as they leap a lot, mostly in the evening.
Mine even landed on the floor once, luckily I was home. I have covered my tank with egg crate since then.

yours looks very blue mike , it that the flash from the camera.

i didnt know they jumped cole, glad you said. its hard trying to find a small fish i can have 3-4 of that dont jump. i was going for fairy wrasse but they are big jumpers.

Here's my chalk bass. he was awesome - was my favorite. He got along with everyone in the tank and was a good eater. He went carpet surfing one day though. I never heard they were big jumpers though, so I didn't think that was typical for the type of fish. However, after reading above - maybe it is. My tank was covered - he got through a 1/2" space in the back corner where the refugium return was coming in.

thats w/o flash.. I found a nice blue one....the flash washed out the color......I didn't know about the carpet diving either ...good info thanks.

eggcrate doesn't block out so much light ... but if you're worried you can buy the premium kind that's shiny silver for 2.5x the price (it reflects light down into the tank more than the white kind.)

Of course if you have point-light (ie halides) it might block more...

Eggcrate also has a bit of positive influence on evaporation :)
