Challenge: lighting a drop off

With 4k whites I don't think you'd need 2700k whites or 660's honestly. And also for your violet channel, I'd do a mix of 405nm and 430nm.

I personally think this is the best idea. It might take more drivers but I think this is the best way to do it, also doing it this way you could absolutely keep SPS in the deeper part, especially with the right optics. Just get a storm x controller which can do 16 channels. Would actually be fairly simple with LDD drivers, driver boards and a storm controller.

Thanks CrazyEyes. Another idea if you wanted to keep the budget down and save time is a 48" Reef Breeders Photon. I am using this light and for the price it's hard to beat. You can change out LEDs and optics very easily. They will allow you to customize the LED layout and optics. So with some careful forethought on the drop off I think you could make it work. Not Apex ready but it comes with a controller so there's really no need for it. My only complaint is If I were to buy it again I would probably swap the red LEDs which of course I can still do in the future. It tends to give a very slight pinkish hue. I'm getting great growth right now at just 50% intensity on a 24 inch deep tank with the fixture 8 inches off the water.
