"challice" pics...lets see em!

I just purchased one of these at my LFS. I'm not sure where to place it in my tank to get the best color. It's a bit dull looking right now...looks kinda like a cup coral. My light fixture has 2-150W halides and 2-96W PC Atinics. The tank is 21" deep. Some sites recommend to place it at the bottom of a tank with halides and others recommend high light. What do those of you with one of these corals recommend?

Mark, the Jaydas gets super fat,big, oval gold eyes Huh? Very nice. My piece has a really huge eye on it. Different from the other golden eyes I have. That Rastafari looks very nice. I just got a very similar looking watermelon type in a trade. It does not have a name but reminds me of the rastafari...it is still to small and yet to color to its potential but it is looking really nice. The mother colony was sweet and that is what made me trade for it..as if I need anymore watermelon type chalices, lol. Last I counted I have 6 versions. I am off to take some pictures.

Mark, Ah yes, the LE red watermelon...It made an amazing recovery. It is currently completely healed up, growing, and developing a nice new eye at the leading edge. I think within 8 days of the damage it was completely healed and you couldn't even tell anything had happened to it. I have been counting my lucky stars

Pictures as promised All frags, but growing.

This is the LE Upscales Raspberry Chalice. I love the blue/orange/raspberry eyes it has developed. The color on the main body is so cherry bright. Super sweet .

This is a watermelon like chalice, purple/blue body with the greenish/yellow eyes, trademark of the watermelon type chalices. I got it from Kenny, Pookstreet, recently. He has some nice stuff . It is growing nicely and looks to be coloring up as well since I got it.

Here is Kenny's Red Lava, definately blackish base with the intense red. Similar to the Darth Maul that Matt carries at Reefready, maybe more red than black than the Darth Maul.

The one and only Orange Sherbert chalice One of my personal top favorite chalices in the tank. I waited patiently for quite a number of months to get this guy. I can't wait for this coral to grow super BIG .

Yes, it is the same. The original colony was split at the supplier and 1/2 sent to Fragfarmer.com and 1/2 to Aquadesignz.com. I was lucky enough to purchase that piece from Aquadesignz before Eric got a chance to. I just think the name Pumpkin Patch is a more fitting name.

Real Lucky Just kidding Anyhow, I think I will keep the name I tagged it with. If anything it will be more of a lineage thing even though they are supposedly the same. Both nice pieces that is for sure

Miami Hurricane chalice it is, lineage to Fragfarmer. I can't wait to see how it colors up for Brian over time, being that half of it is mine .

Mark, the Orange Sherbert is awesome, even more so in person. I hope it turns out to be a moderate to fast grower. We shall see.

Chalice - Echinopora Lamellosa?

Here's a pic of the chalice I purchased this weekend, though it doesn't look anything like the ones posted so far. I know the hobby names sometimes overlap species. I'm guessing this is a chalice of the Echinopora Lamellosa sp.

Thanks for the confirmation, Slojmn. I was really hoping it was chalice and not some cheap substitute. I'm anxious to see what it will do in my tank. I can already see hues of green and pink peeking out of the fleshy stuff.

Here is my chalice. It is not as fancy and beautiful as some that have already been displayed but I got it out of frag tank at one of the LFS's for $20. It has really been through the trenches too.

Great echino photos!

Here is one that I have been cultivating for a while now. My son calls it the "Orange Immolation" because it reminds him of fire.....reddish/pink nodes against an underlying blue body with large orange mouths. Some mouths on the mother colony are almost an inch in diameter. Here is a picture of one of the frags. It appears that the new growth causes the rim to be orange too.
