"challice" pics...lets see em!

Is that the source of the "Chalice" name, the cup-like shape they grow to? I guess I'd have to agree, as Echinophyllia tends to plate out, rather than grow upwards in whorls or cups.
Hehe, I haven't let one of my pieces of Echinopora get big enough to do that before I fragged it back, so I'll have to take your word on it Randy. ;)

Jeez, you guys are up early....
Here's my green Echinophyllia taken several months ago. This coral is getting 'out of control' big right now. I've placed this green one over a big field of brown star polyps to let smother 'em .... something these corals are able to do quite well!

thanks for the info RandyO. I thought it was a Mycedium.aka elephant nose coral. Guess I nee to rerea Borenman again and learn about these other species! :-)
 
We're on reverse lighting schedules, Randy! Well, good morning now. Here's one for ya'll: what is it? Total size of the piece is 4" diameter. Each polyp is very large. I've never seen another coral like this before.

nice i've s een em before starts with an Sc something.. usally brown.

i posted this in its own id thread but only got one reply to check out gregs piece on page 6. from what randy posted mine looks nothing like that. the polyps are good sized...the largest polyp(right of bottom center) is probably 2.25 inches in diameter, if not larger! has anyone seen anything like this before? thanks for any help!

how big is your oxypora piece marlooney? my gf's is about 8inches by 4 inches....really nice till it faded into an overall lilac color.

anyone have any ideas on how to brighten its mouths back up? (no need for the 'send it to me' talk!...unless you wanna trade acan lords!!) :D
