my green echinophyllia is now 7" diameter and showing hints of yellow/orange. I have it under a 250w Iwasaki 6500k plus VHO actinics.

I found this wild Echinopora while browsing the LFS last month. It was a little damaged but has healed up nicely.

beautiful challices! i love how the pylops are growing around your coral gary!!!

Actually, I think the polyps were there first. His echino has been mowing them down, making more room for growth.

Nice looking corals Randy. What are those darker spots on the purple? Are the eyes taking on a secondary coloration?

Randy - The purple I got from you was looking really good for a while and even had green rings at the mouths but lately it has washed out and looks just davenjz's colorwise. Any idea if it's teh vho's doing it or if i have stressed it out? It looked great for teh first 6 months with the green in it but it doesn't seem to be happy now.

Dave - yours is the same color as mine is right now so it may end up looking like randy's purple if I had to guess.

Kev,
I put my Echinoporas under VHO in December. Before that, I had them in the shade under my MH's. The purple's whole body had those larger corallites/eyes. Once it was under a brighter area in the VHO tank, it started to get a little blue, and I noticed it was loosing the big round eye look. What you see now are the shaded areas that did not convert. The corals was on a slight angle in the aquarium, so there area a few spots with more purple color, and those wide open corallites. The rest of the coral has morphed, for the better, IMO.
Very strange. I can understand color changing, but skeletal changes just from different lighting is beyond me.

For these pics, I had to pull the corals out of my 55 gallon VHO tank. I put them on top of my Acropora efflo/soli so I could get a better shot. They did not show up good under the blue VHO's.

Huh, very kewl. I'll have to stop by and check things out at your place. I've got some time on my hands of late... Been planning a trip down there one day.

Anytime. Just let me know. I've got some extra time now, but once the middle of April comes, I'll be swamped.

How rarely do these things come in?
Whats the going rate? for a purple with pink eyes?

I never really looked for them before, but my LFS recently brought a whole bunch in, they arent that expensive either like $50 or 60, am I crazy to let them go or should I pounce on them? I bought 4, and am running out of room :)

I just picked up one from my LFS for 89.99. Most likely Echinophyllia. At one time they were rarely seen at the LFS, but now they seem to be making thier way in.

cool coral Brahm. I have a green eye echinopora too. The body is not purple like yours. That is real nice. Mine looks like my blue echinopora I posted above, only with green eyes. It's a slow grower for me.

captain7359,mine is also under VHO's and T5's.It was pretty much brown/pink when i purchased it and has only slightly colored up.This is my first experience with Echinopora so i'm not sure if it will change color or not. That would be pretty sweet if it morphed into something similiar to Randy's awesome specimens.
