I believe that Snipersps has it right. The first watermelon I have seen was from ReefTec Designs, Ron Johncola, posted a number of years ago. Here is the original picture that was listed on their site:

I got a small frag from Ron Johncola (ReefTec Designs) when he offered a piece for sale many years ago. Here are some pics as it was growing up:

As time passed, a few new Alien Eyes were now on the market (ie Tubbs AE) and Snipersps passed a frag of the original Watermelon AE to Steve Tyree at Reeffarmers.com. This is documented here.

The original Watermelon AE is bright pink, slightly red in color, yellow/green eyes and a bright green rim. The ones that are on the market now seem redder and darker that the original from Ron Johncola.

Great bit of history and info there! I was curious as to who was the one responsible for my latest bad addiction!

Check this one out, I am digging the blue rim and red eyes on this one! definitely not one of your normal type chalices

yeah good stuff Bob, definitely different from all the other stuff we are seeing. What do you think about this Watermelon? I found it from the same guy who posted the Ture Blood. It's called the Florida Watermelon and appears to be a little different than most we see. I'm am wondering if it's the same piece as Peter's "Pink Boobies"? anybody know?

Hey Kev...That is not the same species as the boobies. I have seen the one above in person. Go back and you can see the different corallite structure.

I picked up a few frags from Rich. The frag looks exactly like one i looked at that was not for sale at the time.

yeah, I see it now...how did it look up close btw? pretty killer?

Your correct that's the one It grows pretty fast as far as watermellons go.

I may have been mistaken Kev. I will wait to hear what donovan says. I will assume the mother belongs to donovan and i saw a frag of what i think is from the above colony. I saw the frag pic on ebay and it looked exactly like the one i saw in person and asked how much it was and like i said at the time it was not for sale. If it is the piece it is very nice and stood out from some other watermelons around it. Peter's "boobies" piece is a killer piece from the pics.

Yep, guilty as charged. His piece grew like a weed maybe it was his Solaris.
