Chances of survival for a XXL Ritteri at LFS

A chain near me has this guy priced at $90. Great colors but a pretty gaping mouth and deflating and inflating in spots. I have Cipro and a QT but debating if it's worth it?

Yeah I love them but I lost a gig a while back. Didn't treat because the shipper said he had it for a few weeks and it was taking food. It was also very sticky but it didn't make it past 3 weeks and moved all over. 500 gallon system with LEDs and good water params.

i pretty much treat all anemone.. specially carpet. except maybe a few BTAs

this one looks good. treat early

Point out that it's sick with the gapping mouth and see if you can get it for like $10 if you play it right I am betting they'll take something instead of nothing. :D What do you have to lose?

Yeah I know the manager. Told him I like it but it doesn't look the best so not crazy about the price. He's back in tomorrow so I'm going to call and do some haggling or offer to trade some coral.(he has a biocube of coral he is proud of)

Size of the anemone does not matter to me. I can get them to any size I want within a few months. Color is important to me. He looks very savable. I would get him if the color is nice.

You need to order Ciprofloxacin today so you have it to treat right away. I wouldn't wait personally if you have every intention of purchasing it.

Awesome!! I'd let the mgr know that this anemone will perish but you are willing to take it off his hands so he's not at a total loss. And that you are willing to take your chances of actually trying to save it.

Yep, I may see if he's willing to take some coral in exchange. I have a 12" toadstool that is taking up too much room. Lol

I see nothing wrong with being honest, but I tend to steer away from trying to short change my LFS on animals that I am particularly interested in. From my experience working at a LFS in my younger years, it really disincentivizes ordering those animals in the future.

I talked to him and he won't budge on it. I wouldn't be so hesitant if it weren't for the fact that I've never treated one. I have everything for it, just still a bit on the fence due to having lost the blue gig a few months ago. Drove 3 hours and spent $125 on it but I guess it was my fault for not treating regardless. Had a blue gig for about 2-3 years before that and lost it in a tank crash but it came from an individual.

I was being honest, he will lose that anemone if it's not treated. If the LFS was worth anything as a reef keeper he would know to treat it with Cipro. So since it probably won't be treated it's going to die and he'll be out whatever he paid for it.

Yeah he's not very knowledgable and told me he ordered it simply because he doesn't see them available often. I've seen fish and anemones both die a slow death in his tanks simply because he orders fish that are harder to keep and asks high prices for them. The only time I purchase anything from him is when I see something mislabeled or mid prices generally which is few and far between these days as he tends to think livestock is worth more these days that he once did. I've bought a few diseased fish and nursed them to very nice fish including a 3" range labeled as a unicorn for $15 that turned out to be a nice Vlamingi.

Pretty hard to tell from one picture. Ritteris are anemones of many states. I'm not ruling out that it might need treatment but it could be adjusting to the new system it finds itself in. Back before treatment was even an option, I had anemones take weeks to fully acclimate to my systems. In that time they would have good days and bad before they stabilized.
