Chattering 6200.10

I've just received this pump used and its chattering like crazy when run dry for a few moments. The grey ring on the impeller shaft (above the white brake ring) is very loose, and actually lifts up a few mm's. The sound seems to be coming from the impeller itself although there is a rattle inside the motor housing when i shake it.

It surely needs a cleaning buy I dont foresee this fixing the loud chattering. Do you guys think a new impeller would fix this issue? Also how much would an impeller cost to order from Tunze USA?

Thanks for any help.

PS, does the alarm sound when the pump is run dry? Because after just a few moments the controller (7094) starts beeping.

The driver beeps, not the 7094 and yes it beeps when run dry and will chatter alot. Don't run the pump dry, it relies on water to lubricate and suspend the moving parts. It sounds like the bearing shell is broken. If it has this older style drive unit I would replace it with a new 6200.70. You can assume the drive unit is at a minimum 3 years old and is due for replacement.

Thanks for the reply Roger. Is the best place to get the drive unit from Tunze.com? Is the unit 6200.70 a direct replacement?
Thanks again.
Jason

6200.70 is a direct replacement but you must change all included parts. Tunze.com is a good source but because the orders are processed in Germany you may have to pay a currency exchange fee on your cc bill. We do ship them from the US and usually the fee is minimal 1-2% or a couple dollars flat. Premium Aquatics does usually stock this part as well as does Salty Critter.
