Cheap LED for 20 high wanted.

24 long 16 high.

It's my first salt tank, and I'm just going to be doing the EASIEST possible things I can.

So I'm looking for a decent, and most importantly *CHEAP* LED to hold me over for a few months, until I get the hang of saltwater!

Looking to HOPEFULLY spend around 50 bucks. Anyone help me out? Old lights you no longer use? New lights you hate? :spin2:

If you want something inexpensive, go with t5HO. Save up for better quality LED.
The last time I check, a 24" 2 bulb T5HO fixture will only runs around $35 on CL.

The problem with T5HO being that it costs about 4 cents an hour to run.... Compared to the less than 1 cent an hour for LED :/

I'm not just looking for LED because I believe it's better. The long term costs are *MUCH* better too.

So does anyone have a used LED....? Lol

Go with Reefbreeders if you want to run LEDs on a 20. I run the Value on my 20 long, no problems, great growth.

Easy there, no one is being rude. He's just making a general statement and not attacking you.

Everyone here, or most people on RC are here to help others, especially newbies like yourself.

Just like in life, you need to filter out what you like/dislike and move on.
Like Taylor Swift would say, shake it off :)

Just didn't ask for an opinion on whether or not I could do this cheaply, and it came off as rather rude is all. I know it's not cheap.
Then again, I don't plan on doing anything over the top or fancy.... Green star polyps, mushrooms... I'm after very basic things for my first salt tank which can be accomplished with crappy used gear.

I'll save fancy for when I'm more knowledgeable.

So that being said... Anybody got a cheap used LED for sale?

I would say go DIY with LEDS but the budget given will be hard!!! Maybe a PAR30 or PAR38 with 120 optics could light the center but would recommend 2..

Try LED fixture from ebay seller: topdogsellers. I have EVO 36" on my holding tank and zoas and mushroom are doing ok

Yea, what about generic grow bulbs if he is just going for mushrooms and polyps wouldn't that work? Here is a 30 dollar glow fixture that might work for basic stuff. http://www.banggood.com/14W-Blue-or...ng-225LED-Grow-Light-AC-85-265V-p-935661.html

Oh, the $50 price range was for used. I'm just trying to be cheap, lol.

I'm going to spend $100 on one my friend uses (http://www.amazon.com/Galaxyhydro-t...TF8&qid=1430892776&sr=8-1&keywords=reef+light) if I can't find a used one by the time I feel that my tank is mature and ready for reef :P

One thing most people on this site have in common is that we've all spent a LOT of money on this hobby. Going forward, you may find that your posts will be better received if you choose your words more carefully. "Cheap" rings pretty strong, especially when you want something I have spent a lot on, and you want it cheap ;). "Hoping I can save a few dollars buying used" hits the ear much softer.

Oh haha. I apologize.

I'm a very frugal person, trying to save a few bucks. And I hate to pull the "I'm a broke college student" card but.... I'm totally a broke college student. :lolspin:

Most of us have tried to find a way to do something hobby related for less. If not, we wouldn't have Pickling lime for Kalkwasser and Randy's famous two part ALK/CA additives.

Okay, now I have to search for Randy's famous two-part ALK/CA additives... I'm not really cheap, I'm just married to someone who hates hearing, "Honey, I need to order something else for the tanks"
