Cheap Wave Maker Advice

Hello all!

I still have a tank, and it's starting to improve. So I'm shopping for wave makers, because my flow is kinda low. However good quality ones are out of my price range. Can anyone suggest a decent wave maker for under $100? I have tried 2 of the Jebao ones, and they're fantastic, but these 2 don't always stay running. Maybe bad luck? Should I try a different one? Should I try Jebao again? Help me out guys. Thanks in advance.

Hydro koralia are pretty decent and if you have a reefkeeper which I have or possible apex you can make them pulse like a wave maker

Mileage may vary but out of the probably 30 or-so Koralias I've had over the years, I only have 1 left. Every single one of them either started leaking voltage or crapped out altogether in short order. The one I do still have is relegated to mixing water. Since the Hydor heater exploded in my tank a few years back, I will never give that company my money again. I have TRUELY had better luck with some of the Chinese knock-offs these days than I ever have with Hydor. I would stick with the knock offs or bite the bullet and spend some cash on a tunze or maybe a gyre...just my 2 pennies.

Jebao is a great pump but they don't live as long as tunze. With your tank I'd get a gyre. Several companies make them.

I agree. I have one of the Jebao gyre versions. It's a fantastic pump. When my current Jebao wavemaker gives up the ghost I'm switching that one for another gyre.

It is true they don't last as long as some of the other brands, but then they cost a third of the price. If it will last half as long, I think it's money well spent.

The only problems I've had seem to be electronic, not mechanical. I've got two old Jebao pumps that just need new power supplies. They work perfectly well other than that. If I would take the time to find a replacement, I'd have more flow in my tank than my fish could stand.

Power supplies are easy to find on Amazon.

I just wanted to follow up on this to say thanks to everyone for chiming in. I think I'll give the Chinese knock offs another try and hope for the best. I was able to monkey with one of the old ones, and it's been running fine for about 5 days now, which reminds me how awesome they are when they work.

I had a Jaebo wavemaker that ran good for a few years until I got my EchoTech MP40. Maybe try another Jaebo.....

I'm just excited that your tank is still up!

I would try a gyre or maybe one on each side of your tank.

Thanks man, I'm hanging in there!

Right now I'm thinking a cp-40(gyre) in the middle, and a sw-15 on each end. All three will point forward against the front glass, and hopefully create lots turbulence against the front glass and fighting each other. Opinions welcome!
