Now I know this is a stupid question and what not because i built a refugium and kinda figured this would happen but yea I built a refugium put Cheato in there and its growing really quick but now i have white bugs in the tank on the glass that is normal right? Also there is brown stuff growing on the cheato is that normal also? Anything else I should expect or change anything?

If you have low nitrates and phosphates in your tank than chaeto isn't going to grow, lighting can be an issue as well. the little white bugs... i'm assuming that they're amphipods. google it and see if that's what it is.

well obviously ive only had the cheato in there for only about a week now and the bugs are really small but i can see like antennas on them and see them walking on the glass. Anything to do so they dont grow out of control, also whats the main purpose for them in my main tank anyways sorry new to this. They also looks like little white specs right now to.

Amphipods, copepods and mysid shrimp. Your's sound like Amphipods....great lil' critters.

The brown on your chaeto is probably a different type of algae and detritus. It'll accumulate on the chaeto. More flow going through your chaeto will help. Your Chaeto will grow well, as it absorbs nitrates and grow slower as the nitrate levels in your tank are reduced. At times, you'll need to prune the chaeto and this is how you actually export the nitrates from your system.

The pods in your main tank aids in biodiversity And helps in cleaning your substrate, They self regulate meaning that they won't get to the point you have a layer of pods moving on the sand bed. Once you get enough of them (6months at least) then you can get a mandarin in your tank as that is all they eat. (until you train it to eat flakes and pellets.)

CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE A SUCCESSFUL FUGE!

the little bugs like everyone else said are good.

think of them as part of your clean up crew/food for some fish.
