Cheato maintiance?

Is Cheato like a steak? It needs to be flipped before it burns?

I have a rather large chunk of cheato in my fuge, and it is growing on the top and another ball has started growing from some break off pieces.

However, the other day I flipped my main cheato ball over and a good 1/3 of it was all white and dead, I assume it was from not getting any of the light? Do I need to be flipping my cheato ball every few days or once a week?

I flip mine every couple days or the same thing happens.

I dont really turn it to much and the only differance i see is differants in shades of green. This could be from not enough light. But hust trim off all the dead and discolored and try to leave a softball sixe or so.

Mine is more the size of a volleyball =) I'll try to break it up in to several smaller pieces and flip them everytime I empty the skimmer =)

Very healthy cheato you should trimm back every month or so.

Chaeto can get pretty dense as well. I pull mine apart when I flip it - it seems to grow faster this way.

I would think that the more surface area it has the more light it would get and the faster it would grow

how powerful does your light need to be to maintain it healthily?

I get good growth. (BTW I also turn my chaeto weekly or so, and trim out a volleyball size chunk every month or 2)

I also flip it every few days so both sides get light
