cheato vrs xenia

have a forest of xenia in our 50gal fuge
mixed in w/ chaeto (there is also chaeto in the sump as well)... both seem to be growing well... although oddly enough it would seem the xenia might grow faster then the chaeto... seems strange but it does... has been this way since first added the chaeto... iow although xenia gets a bad rap - for obvious reasons (easy to groom - just dont let it spread around to every rock!)... i have felt that the xenia has acted very well for nutrient export... was nice to get validation in reading dr shimeks article talking about how next to skimming xenia was best for nutrient export even over calaerpa!

The xenia looks like its perfectly designed to outcompete the corals for every little pod that your fuge produces. I can see how that would be good for nutrient export, but also kind of counterproductive. Any thoughts?
