cheato?

Anyone know where I can pick up a handful in the SOKC, or Moore area?

Also... This stuff doesn't need to "root" into a sandbed, does it? I'm making a modded fuge from an AC. Also, was going to take some of my crushed up LR from the sandbed, and throw that into the bottom, yea or nay?

TIA!

Sounds like a plan, you don't "need" the sandbed in there, but some say it helps more, the live rock is a great idea, and cheato just floats in there, does not root itself down. I can hook ya up with a small ball of cheato if you like. Just PM if you want it and I'll send ya the info (S. Penn & SW 16th)

Sand is a great addition to a refugium as it encourages both the growth of certain sorts of pods, etc. Also it provides an anaerobic zone for natural nitrate reduction to occur....

Well the area that I would have for it, isn't sufficient for a DSB. That, and now that its all glued into place, sand would be EVERYWHERE the way its all put together! LoL! I'm thinking about putting some CC down for the PH, and then some rock ruble that I have sitting in the tank....

I know how it can be to build something and then turnaround and have to deal with the design in the way you use it. That can be frustrating... :) Ah, to live and learn from our endeavors....

CC is bad, IMHO. Just a nice place for crap to settle in and create nitrate problems. Just go with the rock for now, or even maybe just an inch or 2 of sand (IMHO).

Another option you might SERIOUSLY consider is the introduction of a remote Deep Sand Bed (RDSB). There are LOTS of great ways to implement this and a really great thread over in Anthony Calfo's forum on this site:

In short, though, take a 5 gallon bucket or 5g water cube and fill it with sand (pavestone pulverized limestone would be ideal for this). And then use a Maxijet of some sort to run water through it. Water should run run over the top of the sand as to create low disturbance and then "overflow" or whatnot out a hole in the side, or something, through plumbing back to where the maxijet is supplying the water. This is very easy to add into a sump...

Go find the thread, it is a good one...
