I've read that caulerpa is a better nutrient export than cheato, but it carries the risk of going sexual and releasing spores which are capable of crashing a tank. (someone feel free to correct me if I have mispoken).
I've used caulerpa with great growth and no problems for almost a year now, but just ripped it out today actually and replaced it with cheato for the peace of mind.

I think the issue with it going sexual is that the sporation process basically releases a lot of the nutrients the algae soaked up back into the tank, all at once. I also think the main prevention method is just regular pruning.
