awesome... LFS doesnt always have the greatest of selections compared to the Interweb but once in awhile they hit a home run...

Congrats

my lfs is terriable. the tanks and fish are great but the corals are all plain Jane brown zoas and Lps. nothing but non desirable zoas and leather and bubble corals. that's a sweet score. I would either do a 25% hydrogen peroxide dip on that birsnest or use a qtip and apply it straight to the plug to kill off the hair algea on it. within a day or two it will brown out and you can pull it off or wait till it blows off naturialy.

Thanks for the advice, I might just take it off the plug and glue it on to the new plug. Ive never done a peroxide dip before.

Those are some awesome zoanthids. I am always on the look out at lfs for interesting zoas haven't seen any like those yet . Great buy.

I'm lucky to have a few LFS close by that get some nice zoas in pretty regularly. Problem is, I'm out of room, lol.

May I ask where you are from cause that's a sweet deal...over here in CT the zoas alone the LFS would charge well over 100 for that

sent from never never land...

I've never killed anything with peroxide dips. If you don't want to dip the polyps, just drop the plug in a shot glass and squirt a little peroxide in with a syringe or dropper. Kills algae dead and your zoas will be happier without the algae irritating them.

I don't know why, but all the frags I get have algae on them.

I have scored some really sweet corals at a number of LFS. The biggest trick is to remember that their lighting is usually poor and does nothing to show up the color of the polyp. I bring a small flashlight with a blue spectrum bulb or a black light in it. It can give you an idea of the zoas true potential with a little TLC. I once scored over 100 polyps of Hawiian Ding Dangs this way for $50 cause they just looked brown under the store lighting. It is kind of fun to see what might show up that way.
