I go Fast!
Ok so i by this tank from Justin, His ole 150. He seemed very Helpful and knowledgeable about the Hobby. So we make a deal on his tank and was really happy, until i got it home. I found a Chip in the tank coverd by black plastic covers. I ask him about them b/c my current tank does not have them, and said they were normal with this model. Any way here are the pics looks like he got the best of me! Is this repairable? He said it never leaked on him, i just dont want to wake up to a floor of water. And i want to Thank Tony for all his help thus far, it is people like him that make the diff for Newbs like me!

No way i would fill that tank with water in my house. I would be insisting on a refund ASAP. There is barely even any seam left there, and i'm sure it was not something he didn't know was there before selling it unless you had it slide and hit the edge of your truck on the way home with it. If it was that way when you bought it and not brought to your attention before the sale that is just a shame :(. 150 gallons of water wieghs over a thousand pounds, so under no circumstances would i fill that up in my home either way. If you got it cheap enough, you could replace that panel of glass, but i wouldn't trust that one.

Also that is NOT NORMAL to have a chip like that in any brand, type, or size of tank ever. If i chipped my tank like that it would be empty as quick as i could pump it out with every pump i had.

I think what he was saying is that when he bought the tank, there were plastic trim pieces on all four corners of the tank so he never saw the chip. It sounds like the seller said the trim came on the tank from the factory.

When I was there on that Monday, there were no moldings on that tank.
After talking with Jared at the meeting saturday night while talking to him about his plans for the tank I told him I was suprised he wanted or at least paid what he did with the chip in the corner. The confused look on his face told the story...he had no clue.
Then I remembered the moldings Justin had showed me when I was there for the chiller. I told Jared to pull off the left molding and he couldn't miss it.

I told him then I would be leary about it. It could last a week or it could last years, either way it is a big risk.

Then we got to talking about the guys who repair cracked windshields. Do you think they might be able to repair a chip like that?

No, you cant. windshields are tempered, fixing them is not the same. They basically just fill the chip with resin, and make it LOOK like there is no glass missing. Plate glass is dangerously weak from stress fractures. It would not worry me so much if that chip wasn't on a seam that carry's a good percentage of the tank load

Did Justin not tell you of the chip? Fact would remain that this tank as is should not be filled with water. I would never have it in my home and wouldn't trust it for a second. That is taking too big a risk for sure. Sorry for your bad dealing.

Man that sucks I seen the tank full a few weeks ago but I didn't look that close to see a chip... your cat in the last pic is looking for the fish!!!LOL

Another thing that occured to me. When Justin was telling me about the moldings he said it was to keep anyone from gettig scratched or cut by the edges of the chip. To top it off, the molding he showed me were CLEAR plastic. The one's I saw on the tank Saturday night were definitely black.

There were other people there on Monday who can verify that there were no moldings on it at that time. I'll let those people choose wether or not they want to speak up.

This really burns my butt and I'm not even the one who got slighted on the tank.

dude theres nothing wrong with the tank..it doesnt affect the tank...i had it like that for a long time...and when i got it it had the covers over it..and i forgot about it...

The pictures that Justin has posted of this tank in the past clearly show that there were no moldings on the corners of the tank.

I will be asking for a Refund! You buy something from someone that is a COMAS member you expect to be told the truth at least! I know it was a cash deal, but be a Man Justin. Take the 10,000 Dollars you were waving in everyone's face every time you got money out and give me a Refund or at least pay for a new pain of glass!

Well Just got a PM from Him. Looks like he is not Man enough to admit when he is wrong and give me a refund, or hell just pay for a new piece of glass. So now i am stuck in a Pickle! How much would it cost to replace that front pain of glass? And due they come to you to do it?

1/2 plate glass is around 15 bucks a sqft. How big is the front piece?

Jerrod, I'm sorry this is one of your first experiences with a member of our club. FWIW, I have had many dealings with members and no one has ever tried to swindle me.

I hope you can get this worked out with Justin. It may help to contact him privately.

If you need help with anything please feel free to contact any of the club officers.
