I have some cotton candy cyano in a frag tank and was going to use this to get rid of it,so the question is do I still need to aerate the tank since there is no fish in it?

Cotton candy algae is the same as cyano?

I don't konw if the chemiclean will take out the cotton candy....

You probably don't need to but any inverts may enjoy the better O2. So I probably still would just in case especially since it's so easy to throw an airstone in. You can also just set the skimmer very low so it doesn't skim out and still oxygenates the water some. Watch for overflow even with it turned way back.

I don't think Cotton Candy, and Cyano is the same thing.

and I also don't think chemiclean will work on Cotton Candy, if that is what you truly have.

You probably have the Cyano because of the lack of aeration.
The byproduct of cyano is oxygen. When it oxidizes it will cause your pH and dissolved oxygen to drop some, might or might not effect your tank inhabitants.

That stuff is nasty and hard to get rid off.

Since you are only using a 10 gal with a simple filter and a powerhead I would sudgest puling everything out of the tank. Then you clean your tank, filter, powerhead with boiling water or some crazy harsh chemical (bleach). After you did that you will have eliminated about 90% of it. The last step would be to somehow clean your corral and the rock (plugs) they are on. Maybe someone on here can tell you how to eliminate it from those parts.

Like Steve above stated oxygenating the water will only help so after the whole cleaning you could add another small powerhead just below the water line or witha airline in the intake to blast the tank with bubbles...

Good luck,

BK
