chemi pure elite

Everyone rants and raves about this stuff and it seems fairly cheap to run. I think I'm going to give it a shot. Anyone here have experience with it and if so do you recommend it?

People rant and rave about a lot of things; don't believe the hype. It would be fool hardy running DI resin on a reef tank. Get some GAC and GFO.

yeah that stuff sucks i used it and the problem came back with a vengance. in the end cooking my rock is what fixed my problem and a refugium in my sump

I guess by everyone I meant general people's views of it. I haven't really heard anything bad until now. Frankly my levels are all good and stable in my tank my thinking was it couldn't hurt. I was also mainly referring to using it in my nano because I don't run a skimmer on that tank I just use weekly water changes to get by.

There is nothing wrong with it and it's convenient for many. Seems popular with non tank keepers beause of it's size and convenience. It's a little pricey vis a vie gac and gfo prices. but comes in a trow away bag.

The chemi pure elite is simply a mix of granulated activated carbon and granulated ferric oxide in a bag.
The chemi pure is just granulated activated cabon. Dionization resin is also added to both. The resin is useful in freshwater applications but not salt water as it is instantly used up because of the large amount of dissolved solids in salt water.

so marine aquarists using these products are paying for something that's useless.

Maybe that's why experienced reef keepers use GFO and/or GAC!

I use it. It's easy and convenient for me. I don't have a sump; only a canister filter, so for me to toss a couple of units into the canister trays is simple and easy. About a week after beginning chemi pure elite, my algae began to decline and after a month, no more. Do I rant and rave? No. Do I use it? Yes. Does it control algae? yes.

Pull off the little zip tie, and it comes with an easy to use media bag too. Just add GAC and GFO another zip tie and it's good to go.

That's why I want to try it on my nano tank. It seems convienent. If it doesn't seen to work I could start to debate running a dual reactor but that would seem rather goofy on a 16 gallon tank ha

Nope, just a media bag; rx's are nice because they actively tumble the chemical media making for good contact. Bags are passive in that you place them in a high flow area and pass as much water as you can near or through it; It can be done very well and affectively, it can also be done poorly. It's all about getting a consistent amount of water constantly through the media.

A reactor keeps the media fluidized and is more efficient in terms of the amount of surface areabinding sites) exposed to water . However, chemi pure elite is the same thing as putting gfo and carbon in a bag

I been running about a month. I haven't noticed a difference but that may be a good thing. Any advise on how often to change it out? I have a 25 with a 15 sump
