Chemi-pure...

I just got 1 unit of chemi-pure for my 12G, and no where on the package does it say how long it's good for or how to reuse it/wash it or whatever. Does anyone know anything about re-using a chemi-pure and how long they are good for?

Thanks,
-Simon

if it's a full unit you're probably good for at least a couple months, possibly longer. I would recommend taking the bag out and rinsing it once a week (ro water preferably, but I have used plain tap many times) just so the mesh bag doesn't clog with detritus.

I use Chemi Pure all the time; it's a great product. You will have crystal clear water that has that polished look.

1 unit for your tank is a lot (they sell half units). A unit is designed for a 50g tank.

How long to leave in depends on how you use the stuff; is it in a filter, is it passive sitting in a sump...?

Rule of thumb would be about 2 - 3 months.

so is 1 unit too much for my nano cube? Yeah, I was going to put it in my first chamber under my purigen pad...

It's not going to do any harm and in fact now that i think about it...you can probably go a lot longer before a change out due to its size and your tank size.

Your placement is fine as well. This is a very good product, it's safe and used by many in the hobby/industry.

I just tried a unit in my canister filter on my 55g The clarity is excellent. Anyone know of a good online sorce to save money?

I got mine from Marinedepot.com because I bought it with a few other items as well...I am very excited to get it in my tank....should be later tonight. I am waiting for my water to finish mixing so I can do a water change first. I'll let you know how I like it.

Thanks, everyone.

Just follow directons and make sure to rinse the bag a few times with sea or RO water to get a lot of residue off or your water will turn grey for a while. I usually soak it for 10 minutes then rinse for 30 seconds until it stops driping...then your good to go!

Okay, Iv'e soaked it for WAY longer than 10 minutes and I am still getting JET BLACK water???????

I DO NOT want to put it in my tank and turn the water black, lol. Is the black stuff the stuff that helps the tank? If so, I don't know if it's worth it?

Anyone know of a better way of getting this black stuff out???

Oh man, I'm overwelmed!!!!!!

Any help? :(

I'm kind of in a pickle....it's still soaking so....if I am not suppose to get it all out....someone please? lol

I don't want to sound impatient, it's just it's still soaking so it's either I keep soaking and rinsing and risk ruining the thing, or I put it in the tank and it makes it black.....

Thanks....

I just through mine in the sump and after an hour all the black is undetectable if noticeable at all. You may see more cloudyness being a full unit in a 12 gal but It shouldnt harm a thing.

Well, I just "bit the bullet" and put it in...seems to be just fine...no black water yet. Now, I'm worrying I might have over-did the washing, lol. Wow, it's hard being OCD in this hobby...

Thanks again everyone, while my very novice self struggled with something that's probably a no-brainer.

give a good rinse then drop it in. The "black" stuff actually looks a bit blue in the tank. You don't want too much of that, but I've put them in without a thorough rinsing before and had no ill effects.

LMAO! You didn't over do it! It sits in high water flow for months at a time doing its job...your time rinsing is nothing compared to that.

You did it; you learned from the experience and the next time you're good to go my friend!

Nice eh:)
